"[Science fiction is ] That branch of literature which is concerned with the impact of scientific advance upon human beings."
- Isaac Asimov

Tree-Grown Wood

The room wasn't big, it wasn't small: say ten by twelve. But it was cool, well-lighted and most imposingly furnished. The air recirculators were cleverly hidden behind animated friezes; the carpeting was thick and soft; and every piece of furniture was constructed from top to bottom of authentic, expertized, genuine tree-grown wood.

I like words like this, that emphasize the ultra-modernity in science fiction by reaching back to a simpler past. Compare to groundcar or static house or inert-wear or flat photo or tru-mem systems or post-crime punishment.
