As far as anyone knows, this is the first use of "scientifiction", which was the term used by many readers before the term "science fiction" was popularized (see below).
Be sure to read this excellent essay by writer Jack Williamson, published in Amazing Stories Quarterly (1928) about the wonders of scientifiction - Scientifiction, Searchlight of Science.
Although science fiction was used as early as 1851, it was in an obscure work. Hugo Gernsback created the term "scientifiction" in his own magazines like the one quoted here and in Amazing Stories in 1926. By the end of the 1920's, though, the term "science fiction" was simpler and was taken up by other authors and fans.
Compare to science fiction from A Little Earnest Book Upon a Great Old Subject (1851) by William Wilson. Comment/Join this discussion ( 0 ) | RSS/XML | Blog This | Additional
