| An artificial arm that responds in a manner similar to the 'original equipment' item. |
This book was, of course, the inspiration behind the popular television show The Six Million Dollar Man, which ran from 1974-1978 and starred Lee Majors.
The unique feature of bionic limbs was that they were not just dead prostheses attached to the body; they could be commanded by the mind using what remained of the nervous system.

The artificial muscles.. which in this case are silastic and vitallium pulleys, then contract, twist, and tighten. You can even sense with your fingertips...
Your arm should have on the order of ten times the gripping and handling strength you once had. The same applies, of course, to your fingers. Objects you could never dent with your natural fingers before, well, now you should be able to crush them like an eggshell. |
