Gemotion Bas Relief Display
Gemotion is a soft display that is meant to be experienced with the hands as well as the eyes. It adds an extra dimension to your display; the surface bulges and pulls back in depending on the content displayed on the screen.

The Gemotion display was created by Yoichiro Kawaguchi, a computer-graphics artist; he is Associate Professor of Computer Graphics Art at the University of Tokyo. The "bas relief" effect is created by seventy-two air cylinders placed just behind a flexible 39"x24" screen. (For those of you who slept through that part of Art History, bas relief is a "sculptural relief in which forms extend only slightly from the background - no figures are undercut.")
