Mobile Suit  
  A giant (typically 18 meters tall) humanoid-shaped armored combat vehicle.  

This description of the Mobile Suit is taken from the translation of the novelization of the anime series Mobile Suit Gundam I: Awakening, written by Yoshiyuki Tomino, trans. by Frederik L. Schodt, 1990 for Del Ray Books

"Mobile Suits, MS, were gaint humanoid, heavy armor machines, a new type of weapon designed for close quarter combat in outer space and introduced for the first time in the current war. Externally they resembled a robot, but they were operated by human pilots in a cockpit in the core module..."
