"We follow the scientists around and look over their shoulders."
- Larry Niven

Semuta
A combination of a specific drug and music, which penetrated to the deepest levels of consciousness.

The drug is defined in the Appendix to Dune as "the second narcotic derivative (by crystal extraction) from the burned residue of elacca wood. The effect (described as timeless, sustained ecstasy) is elicited by certain atonal vibrations referred to as semuta music."

The guard captain, Iakin Nefud, squatted on a divan across the chamber, the stupor of semuta dullness in his flat face, the eerie wailing of semuta music around him. His own court sat near to do his bidding.

This idea strikes me as an anticipation of the rave experience, with atonal electronic dub for music, and any of an assortment of substances.
