D.L James (Daniel Lewis James) was an America writer, born in Kansas City, MS in 1911, and died in 1988. He attended Andover Academy then Yale, graduating in Greek Classics in 1933. He was Assistant Director of The Great Dictator, by Charlie Chaplin. He also worked on The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms.
