Dan Simmons (b. 1948) is an American writer and elementary school teacher. His novel Hyperion (1989) won the Hugo award for Best Science Fiction Novel. He has also won the World Fantasy award for his first novel Song of Kali. He lives in Colorado, along the foothills of the Rocky Mountains.
