"Well, Swift is obviously being satirical--making fun of contemporary professors. He hardly seems supportive of the project; any connection to modern science is absolutely inadvertent--Swift clearly thinks it's nonsense.
On another note, I was wondering if Jack Vance didn't give us a preview of the modern laptop and maybe wifi in one of his Magnus Ridolph short stories. I seem to recall Magnus using one by a resort swimming pool at the beginning of one of the stories in the series."
