Comments on Cigarette Lights Self (Not That We Needed It)
The cigarette has a tip anointed with sulphur and phosphorus. Striking the tip against a rough pad on the side of the packet ignites the cigarette, which is reinforced with slivers of bamboo or tobacco leaf to stop it breaking. (Read the complete story)

"cigarettes with built in matches were available in the 60's "
(Bob Saunders 3/25/2005 9:56:38 AM)
"'Decca' brand self lighting cigarettes were available in Britain in the mid - 1960's. They worked on the same principle as these Israeli smokes. They were made in Glasgow, were not popular, and soon disappeared from the market."
(Michael Gardner 4/13/2005 4:11:06 PM)
"I remember the Decca self lighting cigarettes from the 60s, the shop opposite my school used to sell them. It was a bit hit or miss lighting them, especially in damp conditions, and the taste of sulphur and phosphorous lingered until virtually the last puff. I seem to remember breaking off the end with the igniting blob and using matches towards the end of the packet."
( 7/10/2005 8:02:44 AM)
"I've got an un-opened pack of 20 Decca self-lighting smokes, they are in good nick for the era,but i bet they are even more deadly than their modern counterparts!"
(Terry Deighton 8/19/2005 8:13:27 AM)
"Will somebody get a picture or scan the packet.."
(john 9/15/2007 1:41:13 PM)
"As a motorcyclist in the '60s it was very useful to be able to light up behind the fairing whilst moving in traffic or blasting down the highway. I thought it was a great idea and bought them until they didn't sell them anymore"
(Cliff Denton 8/16/2009 5:20:52 AM)
"what company made DECCA self lighting cigarettes?"
(rocco 6/11/2011 3:18:46 AM)
"Yes I remember smoking deccas on the London underground in 1965. People watched with amazement when I struck the cigarette against side of pack"
(Mike 9/20/2013 12:39:19 PM)
