Comments on SF Authors Have Wearable Computing Ideas
The device would need to convey essential information, to the wearer and perhaps to those around him. (Read the complete story)

""I too have been disappointed so far from the wearable smart watches. Here are my ideas of what a smart watch should be able to do:

Time
Weather (i.e. "It's going to rain in your location in 12 minutes")
UV meter - let's you know when you should get out of the sun
A real time health meter - you shouldn't even have to think about it. It should automatically take your heart beat, blood pressure, quality of sleep, etc. It can then tell you "You should try to get to bed early tonight" or "Your tryglicerides are low, here's a walking route to your destination", etc
Payment - just swipe your wrist instead of having to pull out a credit card Information - quick answers returned without having to scroll through pages
Play music
Receive and send text messages video calling
Basically, everything should be automatic and you should never have to pull out your phone unless a larger screen is legitimately required or a simple phone call is all that's needed.""

"Good suggestions. I'd like to emphasize that one of the real problems I have with the 'smart watch wearable' idea is that I also must carry a cell phone. I gave up wearing a watch in the 1980's - designers really need to show me some sort of utility, some measure of convenience (as you suggest) that I can't get any other way. "
