Comments on Giant Air Vortex Gun
You can tell the holiday season is approaching; I'm fondly remembering one of my favorite toys from the 1960's - and look, somebody made a giant version of it. (Read the complete story)

"Well, that was fast. Joel wrote in with a tip to take a look at Wayne Schmidt's Smoke Ring and Air Blaster Gun page. Lots of good information, as well as tips on how to build a working model of an air vortex gun.
Apparently, the device is no longer available, mostly due to safety concerns about what happens if you shoot one too close to someone's ear.
For my opinion on taking the Air Blaster off the market, see Child-Safety Experts Call For Restrictions On Childhood Imagination. As I recall, the most dangerous thing about the Air Blaster was that it developed a crack in the plastic just above the grip; you could get a nasty pinch in the skin between your thumb and forefinger if you weren't careful."

"Theres always the good old Amasci page on vortex guns (http://amasci.com/amateur/vortgen.html). I've recently acquired a dozen or so speakers, so once I find/build an amp and some suitable tubing, I'l have a nice programmable array of vortex generators. Also, the music from the clip (soundtrack from the Evangelion TV series) is unintentionally hilarious. The voxtex cannon is completely benign, unlike the Evas themselves."

"How about the Zero Blaster (http://www.dansdata.com/zeroblaster.htm), and the Airzooka (http://www.dansdata.com/airzooka.htm),."
(Fortigurn 12/5/2007 2:16:53 AM)
"You asked for it, you got it: videos for the Zero Blaster and the Airzooka:

"lol the random evangelion music was great!"

"you can get a device that does this from www.iwantoneofthose.com "

"Interestingly, one such giant vortex was mistaken for a UFO in Denmark some decades ago (and also in USA in the fifties). I wrote about it on: http://forgetomori.com/2007/ufos/ufo-photos-viborg-jellyfish/"
(Mori 12/10/2007 7:00:13 PM)
"Mori - very interesting story; the picture you posted really does look like a 'flying saucer' - no wonder people were fooled."
(Bill Christensen 12/10/2007 7:14:27 PM)
"if you mix some charcoal powder into the barrel of a vortex gun it is proven to cause a huge fiery blast like a mushroom cloud of fire"
