Comments on Russians Plan New Space Platform
The Russians are planning ahead for the demise of the International Space Station. (Read
the complete story)
"Here's a more detailed picture of the proposed space station satellite base from 1949.

""Demise of the ISS":
Shades of Skylab!
I thought we were through with throwing away our space hardware!
No wonder space interest is waning.

"Such a waste !, just reuse it, add it to the space platform, it's already up there, if we can rehab buildings, there is no reason not to reuse the ISS. It's there, and paid for. "
(Burt 1/16/2008 9:56:39 AM) |
"It costs how many dollars per ton to orbit mass? We put how many tons of crap into the atmosphere per ton orbited? We're gonna do WHAT with it?? that is a heluva lot of national wealth to de-orbit for a fireworks display! What a waste!!!"

"Why doesn"t it make sense to recycle the ISS?"
(RW 1/17/2008 6:37:56 AM) |
"That's a very good question; I'm thinking that would be a good article. I've found some source material; read these quotes from a speech by President Bush delivered on January 14, 2008:
'Our first goal is to complete the International Space Station by 2010. We will finish what we have started, we will meet our obligations to our 15 international partners on this project...'
'The Shuttle's chief purpose over the next several years will be to help finish assembly of the International Space Station. In 2010, the Space Shuttle -- after nearly 30 years of duty -- will be retired from service...'
'The Crew Exploration Vehicle will be capable of ferrying astronauts and scientists to the Space Station after the shuttle is retired...'
President Bush Announces New Vision for Space Exploration Program on the White House website.
I also found a 'NASA Report to Congress Regarding a Plan for the International Space Station National Laboratory' which identifies 2015-16 as 'Current Design Life End.'

"Well this is new to me that ISS will last as long as my old Dodge truck. I'll work to defeat any more money to be spent in space. NASA can go to H--- wasting my tax dollar. Any of my Senator or Congressmen who keeps throwing away taxpayers dollars to space has lost my vote. And now I read about paper airplanes being developed to reenter earth atmosphere are they (NASA) that stupid to pull a bone head stunt like that at this time who the h--- do they think they are. Some politicians in this country talk about pulling the plug to the department of Education
my be its time to pull the plug on NASA. Just think instead of all those "waisted" dollars spent on ISS and the Space Shuttle this nation instead spent it on developing new ways to get around on this plant and developing energy solutions ON EARTH not in space. NASA, I cross swords with you and my congressmen will now about my anger with such a pie in the sky agency. "
(Alan from PDX 1/18/2008 6:53:12 AM) |
"What an incredible waste of orbited, operational, paid-for, and durable hardware... NASA should be forced by the American Taxpayer to focus on salvaging and re-using every possible piece of that station for any new endeavours (especially in this time of economic woe and climate change).
Why not go the extra mile and devote one last mission to boosting it's orbit, so that it will remain preserved for future use as long as reasonably possible?

"I'm new here, just wanted to say hello and introduce myself."
(Arrarcres 8/16/2008 12:31:22 AM) |
"all matter sent into space must be recycled to prevent loss. the ISS must not be burnt in the atmosphere. what can be done to save this thing? some commercial app, like a big radio transmitter, or solar array? or both?"
(ewkeane 9/14/2008 9:57:22 AM) |
"you guys sound serious about a giant space station, wow thats insane. i have a theory how ever big the universe might be it equals to what a human mind can think of therefore eveything is posible. (every movie,tv show, videogame and book). if our brains or even a super computer cant count all stars accurtely just imagine the posibilitys."
