Comments on Training Robots To Recognize You Is A Bad Idea
Should robots be trained to recognize individual human beings? I'm not so sure - but Active Appearance Modeling is making great strides at CMU. (Read
the complete story)
"Now that I'm thinking about it, maybe outfitting a military robot (like this Wiimote controlled Packbot) with a camera, and then showing it a picture of bin Laden, and then letting it 'hunt' in the Pakistan/Afghanistan border area might not be a bad idea..."

"Terminator any one?"
(yeppers78 5/20/2008 7:31:09 PM) |
"I think that in the first movie, the Terminator does not know what Sarah Connor looks like; he uses the phone book to find women with that name. In the second film, the more advanced Terminator asks for a picture of John Connor."
(Bill Christensen 5/20/2008 8:08:58 PM) |
"I don't think a robot could seriously do better to find a person than a human, especialy one human in particular, possibly among others - and in an extremely large area. Robots aren't very autonomous are they really, yet. "

"You're right; it would be difficult at present. However, there is a lot of work being done on robots that can do well in structured environments with humans, like an standard office. I'll bet a robot that could walk autonomously through an office, looking for one particular face, could be designed and completed with currently available technology."
