Comments on Vote Flipping Video Shows Poor Electronic Plebiscite
Video of how a voting machine fails to properly register a voter's choices makes me think that paper ballots might have a future. (Read
the complete story)
"Yeah I figured it was a calibration issue. Every single one of those machines has to be calibrated at the site and if the people setting them up don't know what they are doing, it can get messed up easily. Also they can go out of calibration pretty easily as well depending on how good the equipment is."

| "That's right. I don't know if it's still true, but my Treo smart phone required a similar calibration test following a reset. It presented a set of screens where the user was required to tap the stylus at a predetermined point on the screen; the test makes sure that the point you tap on the screen corresponds to the machine's memory map of the screen.
I was very unhappy to note that the voting machine in the video failed repeatedly, in spite of calibration attempts. Many voters are unsophisticated, or are unwilling to raise questions with polling place workers. This really is a disaster."

"Wow, use magnetic bits to store votes. If you don't like them, poof they're gone. Of course the software that counts and records them is correct. Hahahahahaha"

"Yes, these are merely the examples where the machine is going to the trouble of SHOWING us that it's doing something wrong. There is no way of independently verifying the 'count' presented by the machine at the end of the voting period even if it appears to 'perform' flawlessly for the 'voters' who dutifully act out their part in the charade."
