Comments on Flame Jet Drill To Bore 10 Miles Into Our Planet

the complete story)
| "Briefly catch the Romulan orbital mining drill in action in this exciting trailer from the new Star Trek movie at about 1'25.

"There's also the absurdly effective drilling technology in the amusingly ridiculous sci-fi adventure movie 'The Core.' If we can just apply Moore's Law to '100 feet per hour' ..."

"Sweet. Just one question; what happens when the drill hits a natural gas deposit?"
(SantaBJ 6/15/2009 7:07:21 PM) |
"I must have watched "Crack in the World" (1965 movie) a 10^6 times as a kid. The plot is about the consequences of a similar project. The science portrayed is pre plate tectonics & the end a bit hokey, but it's pretty good for the genre."

"There was also a one shot drill from space in the Alien vs. Predator movie."
