Comments on Machines Talk More To Each Other
What do all of these machines have to say about us? I hope they just stick to business. (Read
the complete story)
"Don't forget the Geth...
H. Concordis - thanks for the reference. Here's a bit more information:
"The geth are a race of networked artificial intelligences that reside beyond the Perseus Veil. The geth were created by the quarians, as laborers and tools of war...
Part of the geth's success is due to their neural network. Effectively, they 'share' their processing power, distributing low-level processes like motor control and visual identification to free up bandwidth for higher reasoning and complex thought. Geth can't share sensory data—they aren't a hive mind like the rachni—but in large groups they have more to think with. An individual geth has only a basic intelligence on par with animal instincts, but in groups they can reason, analyze situations, and use tactics as well as any of the organic races. "

"Seriously, I think the only thing that's going to save humanity from itself will be the machines. People have no interest in talking to each other in dire situations, that's for sure."

"Hmm, I think that situation has been imagined before. For example, in 'The Apple', a Star Trek episode aired in 1967, a planet of simple humans is run by Vaal, an underground computer system.

"Another example would be Landru, the hologrammatic representation of which is reproduced below. Another example from Star Trek: in this case, 'The Return of the Archons', which ran early in 1967.

(Landru)
It ran an entire planet for six thousand years. I don't know if human beings would mind being told what to do, or have their affairs organized, by a machine, but the writers of Star Trek certainly didn't like it!"
