|"Yes, it's just a prototype. On the other hand, in the early 1900's people started making bulky and uncomfortable prototype bed coverings that were heated with electricity. This odd invention became popular in tuberculosis sanitariums because it was believed that the best treatment for TB was lots of cool, fresh air. Patients were made to sleep outside (there being no air conditioning at that time).
The first thermostat-controlled 'heated quilt' was created in 1936; by the 1960's, 'electric blankets' were widely available."
