Comments on Whisson Windmills To Water Australia Like Vaporators?
Inventor from Oz creates windmills that pull water from the air - then you'll really need a droid that speaks the binary language of moisture vaporators. (Read
the complete story)
"Let's not forget a little book from 1965 by Frank Hebert.. Dune. I think Frank Hebert was closer to this concept with the Fremen culture in his book than in the Star Wars reference you listed. Just my opinion though. BTW, I LOVE this site!!!"

"MetalMINIMayhem - you're way ahead of me. Readers will want to check the entry for Windtraps from Herbert's 1965 book Dune. Herbert is the master of futuristic fictional water recovery technologies: see also dew collectors and stillsuits."
(Bill Christensen 1/30/2007 1:03:21 PM) |
"Exactly! Windtraps came first."

"I don't know how he is claiming to do it but if you could cause the air blowing to flow through a tube and then encounter something like the vortex coolers we used to use that might work. Here is a link to a similar unit. I couldn't find a link to the german ones we used but these are basically the same.
vortex tube.
just a thought

"Science fiction writers Pohl and Kornbluth wrote about the use of a Hilsch vortex tube on windy Venus. The idea is that the vortex tube provides free refrigeration on Venus because high wind velocity was free."
(Bill Christensen 2/1/2007 12:45:10 PM) |
"On the Windmill vaporators: If he is using windmills he could easily either power a Hilsch rank vortex tube using the windmill as a compressor or more eccicently just run a more normal compressor directly from the wind. Planting vegetation might be a lot better way to go, and it was done in France a long time ago with oak trees in an area that was becoming desertized by an individula who meely planted acorns."
