Piranha Movie Now At Stream Near You

I grew up swimming in small lakes, and I remember distinctly the 1978 movie Piranha produced by Roger Corman. I hate it when kids accidentally release ravening schools of deadly piranha into our American waterways!

It now appears that this sf scourge might actually exist. This past week, Jerry Melton was fishing in the Catawba River in North Carolina, and caught a piranha.

Ichthyologist Paul Barrington provides the understatement of the week:

"Releasing nonnative fish in our native waters is highly irresponsible because it could have a very adverse affect on the fish in that ecosystem,'' Barrington said. "Piranha and the snakehead fish have no predators in our waters.''

Obviously he never saw the movie.
