Biometric HandReader - Frank Herbert's Palm Lock?
IR Recognition Systems has released a biometric hand reader that is able to simultaneously analyze more than 31,000 points. The system records 90 different measurements of your hand: length, width, thickness and surface area.

The information taken from the reader is compared to a "template" of your hand that has been previously stored in the reader, on a remote server connected to the hand reader, or on a card. The authentication process takes less than a second.
This form of biometric information-gathering is very helpful in environments that leave people with dirty hands, making fingerprint analysis useless.
This item should cause sf readers to recall Frank Herbert's palm lock, from his epochal Dune novels.
