DoCoMo Cellphone Projector
This prototype cellphone projector from NTT DoCoMo has been demonstrated at CEATEC Japan 2008.

(Cellphone projector and image from NTT DoCoMo)
The image resolution is 480 x 320 pixels, with a luminance of 7.5 lm. It consumes about 3 watts. It uses the "DLP Pico" (digital light processing) chipset, which was developed by Texas Instruments Inc, and consists of a DMD (digital micromirror device) downsized for mobile use.
SF fans have no problem recognizing the pocket display projector from Jack Vance's The Anome (1971):
Ifness drew from his pocket a tube of dull black metal an inch in diameter, four inches long. Along the flattened top a number of knobs caught the light and glittered in Ifness' hand. He made an adjustment, pointed the tube at the wall beside Etzwane, and projected a cone of light.
Etzwane had never seen a photograph so detailed.
