Planets May Wander Alone

Astronomers at the Royal Observatory in Edinburgh claim that planets can be created by the same processes that create stars.

Close examination of the Rho Ophiuchus B star-forming region (a mere 500 light years away) with the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope in Hawaii reveals a dozen isolated planetary objects.

As far as I know, the earliest reference to moving a planet is in E.E. "Doc" Smith's 1934 classic Triplanetary.
