Digital Booth Babe Display 3mm Thick

A remarkable digital representation of a spokesmodel was demonstrated at the International Stationery and Office Products Fair. It is a digital signage system - Vikuiti Rear Projection Film - developed by 3M.

The image is projected onto a 3 mm glass substrate cut in the shape of a woman; it is covered with a high-luminance rear-projection film, a microbead-arrayed surface that presents a brilliant image that can be viewed at any angle.

I'm wondering if the creators of this display were inspired by the surreal stained glass knight from the 1985 movie Young Sherlock Holmes, which had the thickness of a pane of glass. Fans of sf movie effects may recall that is the first fully computer-generated movie character.

Update 03-Sep-2024: The earliest use of digital images in film is probably in Michael Crichton's 1973 move Westworld. It shows the viewpoint of the Yul Brynner gunslinger character.

End update.
