HRP-4C, the cybernetic human robot from AIST, gave an amazing dance performance called "Dance Robot LIVE! - HRP-4C Cybernetic Human" at the Digital Content Expo in Tokyo. Take a look at the video and tell me if you think that this uncanny valley girl has passed beyond creepy to remarkable.
The dance routine for HRP-4Cwas produced by dancer/choreographer SAM-san, who is a member of the music group TRF, and has worked with numerous well-known artists like SMAP and BoA. The song is a Vocaloid version of "Deatta Koro no Yō ni" (Every Little Thing) by Kaori Mochida.
I was trying to think of an early description of a robotic dancer in science fiction, but I'm stumped. I think that there are probably some good examples in anime; I guess mobile persocoms from Chobits would count. So, I'll offer this video of Summer Glau, the dancing Terminator, from The Sarah Connor Chronicles, a futuristic series which is/was barely staying ahead of the real world.
