Galaxy Beam Smartphone Projector
The Galaxy Beam, Samsung's new mobile phone handset, has a feature most smartphone owners can only wish for - a built-in projector.

Galaxy Beam is equipped with a 15-lumen projector that can be used to display HD images and video up to 50 feet wide. Aside from the obvious gimmick, the device includes a 4-inch WVGA display, Android 2.3 Gingerbread, and a 1GHz dual-core processor.
SF fans had this vision of a tiny, pocketsized projector presented to them more than forty years ago. In his 1971 novel The Anome, science fiction Grandmaster Jack Vance described a pocket display projector:
Ifness drew from his pocket a tube of dull black metal an inch in diameter, four inches long. Along the flattened top a number of knobs caught the light and glittered in Ifness' hand. He made an adjustment, pointed the tube at the wall beside Etzwane, and projected a cone of light.Etzwane had never seen a photograph so detailed. He glimpsed several views of the Corporation Plaza, then Ifness made new adjustments, sending a thousand images flickering against the wall.
