Elon Musk et. al. OpenAI Household Robot

The OpenAI’s mission is to build safe AI with benefits for all. And, specifically, a household robot.

We're working to enable a physical robot (off-the-shelf; not manufactured by OpenAI) to perform basic housework. There are existing techniques for specific tasks, but we believe that learning algorithms can eventually be made reliable enough to create a general-purpose robot. More generally, robotics is a good testbed for many challenges in AI.

( From OpenAI technical goals)

I'm wondering if Ilya Sutskever, Greg Brockman, Sam Altman and Elon Musk have been reading science fiction Grandmaster Robert Heinlein, in particular his dream of an all-around household robot as articulated in his 1956 novel The Door Into Summer.

Just what did I want Flexible Frank to do? Answer: any work a human being does around a house. He didn't have to play cards, make love, eat or sleep, but he did have to clean up after the card game, cook, make beds...
