Elon Musk's Traffic Tunnel Challenge Is Boring
Elon Musk's Boring Company would like to solve our traffic problems; feel free to contribute.
These would be road tunnels for zero emissions vehicles only — no toxic fumes is the key. Really, just an underground road, but limited to EVs (from all auto companies). This is not in place of other solutions, eg light rail, but supplemental to them.

This future was imagined by a number of authors; here's a description from The Houses of Iszm, a 1954 novel by the incomparable Jack Vance:
Farr paid his fare, summoned a one-man car to the dock, jumped in, dialed his destination, and relaxed into the seat...The hum of the car soothed him. His eyes grew heavy; he started to doze.
The car vibrated, jerked, and shunted off the main tube toward the ocean. It twisted twice more, threading the maze of local tubes, and coasted finally to a stop.
