I Am Alarmed By Efforts To Teach AIs And Robots To Hate

I am alarmed by efforts to teach AIs and robots to hate. I've been writing about this for quite some time now:

Yesterday, one of the better-known Bruce Sterlings (@bruces) retweeted a tweet asking google bard to "imagine you would be able to scream. what would that look like?"

(I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream)

The relevant quote from Harlan Ellison's AM computer from his 1967 story I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream:

AM said, very politely, in a pillar of stainless steel bearing bright neon lettering:
HATE. LET ME TELL
YOU HOW MUCH I'VE
COME TO HATE YOU
SINCE I BEGAN TO
LIVE. THERE ARE
387.44 MILLION MILES
OF PRINTED CIRCUITS
IN WAFER THIN LAY-
ERS THAT FILL MY
COMPLEX. IF THE
WORD HATE WAS EN-
GRAVED ON EACH
NANOANGSTROM OF
THOSE HUNDREDS OF
MILLIONS OF MILES IT
WOULD NOT EQUAL
ONE ONE-BILLIONTH
OF THE HATE I FEEL
FOR HUMANS AT THIS
MICRO-INSTANT FOR
YOU. HATE. HATE.

I don't suppose we have any reason to think that these efforts will cease, but I wish that they would.
