      Pimp My Heart EKG Bling

Pimp My Heart, a performance art piece that amplifies the heart of the driver through a custom car stereo, premiered at the Miller Gallery at Carnegie Mellon University this past spring.

A special pendant worn by the driver (see blingage below) contains a Pulse oximeter heart beat sensor that is clipped to the ear. The data is fed to a PowerBook; each heart beat triggers an audio file of a heartbeat, which is then fed into the car's high-powered sound system. Transducers under the driver accentuates the beat.

In "disco mode" the beats per minute of the music files played changes in real time along with the heart rate of the user. Thanks to Jeremy for the tip on this article.
