In his 1954 novel The Houses of Iszm, science fiction author Jack Vance describes a security officer's dream come true - a way to quickly get an absolutely accurate model depiction of a human being, right down to the finger prints. He called it a tri-type record

As you can see, it is now possible to scan a person standing on a disk and then 3D print a small duplicate - as predicted!
