Life Machines Barber Robot Concept

Life Machines are concept designs from Postlerferguson, a multidisciplinary consultancy that explores issues of technology and culture.

Life Machines engages with the question of how an ageing population's needs can be met through technology. It investigates a possible future society in which humans and robots coexist in domestic spaces and asks what issues arise in a symbiotic relationship between humans and technology.

Consider the home barber robot.

First, this is just a concept. Second, haven't these guys seen any science fiction since Lost in Space? "Humans and robots coexist in domestic spaces?" Danger, Will Robinson!

Frankly, I don't think their designs push this idea any further than Robert Heinlein did sixty years ago, in Beyond This Horizon.

He pushed his face for a moment into the capillotomer. Shave completed, the booth sprayed him with scent and dusted him off. He was beginning to feel like himself again.
