Virtual Star Hatsune Miku In 3D Hologram Concert Video
Hatsune Miku is a computer avatar, an idoru or personality-construct. 'Her" work is becoming increasingly well-known, particularly now that she is intruding into our world in the form of 3D hologram concerts.

She is the creation of Crypton Media; using Yamaha's Vocaloid software. Hatsune Miku appeared instantiated at CEATEC 2009, thanks to an HRP-4C robot; see this article on Robot Cosplay to learn more.
There seems to be no end to the interest in personality-constructs in Japan; a dating simulation called Love Plus appeared last year that requires the user to kiss his virutal date.
Fans of William Gibson recall the idoru from his 1996 novel of the same name, which popularized Kyoko Date, a computer-generated person created by Visual Science Laboratory in 1996.
"...She is Tei Toei. She is a personality-construct, a congeries of software agents, the creation of information-designers. She is akin to what I believe they call a 'synthespian', in Hollywood."
