StoryFile To Help William Shatner Become Landru

William Shatner is determined to outlast his physical life and existence in a manner similar to that of Landru, an artificially intelligent computer from a 1967 Star Trek episode.

(Landru)

William Shatner celebrated his 90th birthday with a leap into the future, preserving his thoughts through an interactive artificial intelligence video made by technology firm StoryFile.

"This is for all my children and all my children's children and all my children's loved ones and all the loved ones of the loved ones," Shatner said, in a news release from Globe NewsWire. The Star Trek alum added, "That's my gift to you down through time."

On March 22, StoryFile announced Shatner as its brand ambassador and the first user of its StoryFile Life product. The company captures conversations by using its proprietary technology Conversa, which applies natural language processing and its patented "Artificially Intelligent Interactive Memories System."

StoryFile co-founder and CEO Heather Maio-Smith stated, "William Shatner is going where no one has gone before. Generations in the future will be able to have a conversation with him. Not an avatar, not a deep fake, but with the real William Shatner answering their questions about his life and work. This changes the trajectory of the future – of how we experience life today, and how we share those lessons and stories for generations to come."

In the first season of Star Trek: TOS episode, The Return of the Archons featured a civilization run by an intelligent computer system that presented itself as "Landru":

Who knows? Maybe the world will be run by William Shatner's StoryFile sometime in the distant future.
