"I received a nice letter the other day from the Dalai Lama. He had read 'The Nine Billion Names of God'. It is about a computer at a Tibetan monastery."
- Arthur C. Clarke

Plastic Igloo
A heavy plastic shelter for use in airless environments.

When mining the asteroids, it is useful to retire at the end of the day to one's plastic igloo.

The igloos, he knew, were manufactured for housing on the airless asteroids of the belt. They were built of a clear thermal plastic and incorporated heating, atmosphere and water units.
From Love Among The Robots, by Emmett McDowell.
Published by Planet Stories in 1946

The igloos were also equipped with airlocks. Go in the entrance, close the door, cycle the air, and walk inside through the inner door.

The idea of a clear dome is used in earlier works; see the moon dome from Ray Cummings 1931 novel Brigands of the Moon.
