"We follow the scientists around and look over their shoulders. They're watching their feet: provable mistakes are bad for them. We're looking as far ahead as we can, and we don't get penalized for mistakes."
- Larry Niven

Chiphead
A person whose organic brain has been effectively superseded by a firmware (integrated circuit or more advanced technology) device.

This novel develops this concept much further than some of the earlier uses of similar terms. Unfortunately, I can't really describe the full flower of this concept without telling too much of the story.

[She] was a chiphead. The point is that the chiphead displayed no aggression toward you. Indeed, it behaved in such a way as to suggest that it would never have harmed you if you had not found the scars on the back of its head.
