"Science and science fiction, how do you even distinguish the two?"
- Jerry Pournelle

Space Tanned
A tan acquired by being exposed to sunlight while outside the atmosphere.

How can you tell if a person is no mere groundhog?

The silence had gone on for several moments when a solidly built man of medium height spoke up. His hair was slightly grizzled - unusual in that group - and his face looked space tanned.
From Methuselah's Children, by Robert Heinlein.
Published by Astounding Science-Fiction in 1941

This is an early use of this colorful phrase, but not the earliest. Compare to space-tanned from Edmond Hamilton's 1938 novelet Murder in the Void.
