Sub-Space  
  A dimension or a transmission medium other than our own, which allows faster-than-light communication or movement.  

As far as I know, this was the first use of this term.

These little coils create a sub-space about the metal bead...

They warp space itself to form a tiny sphere - in effect, a tiny universe - strong enough to withstand unthinkable pressure and millions of degrees of heat.
