"The SF approach: an awareness that things could have been different, that this is one of many possible worlds, that if you came to this world from some other planet, this would be a science fiction world."
- Neal Stephenson

3D 'Chess' Game Board
A flatbed 3D display which is used to play chess-style board games in three dimensions.

At this point in the film, Luke and the droids are traveling with Han, Chewie and Obiwan to Alderaan. Artoo Detoo and Chewbacca take time out for a game that's like chess, only in 3D and more violent. Han is busily checking read-outs after their narrow escape from Tatooine.

[Han] returned to his checking, passing in front of a small circular table. The top was covered with small squares lit from beneath, while computer monitors were set into each side. Tiny three-dimensional figures were projected above the tabletop from various squares.
