"I have been a soreheaded occupant of a file drawer labeled 'Science Fiction' and I would like out, particularly since so many serious critics regularly mistake the drawer for a urinal."
- Kurt Vonnegut, Jr.

Spaceship Garden
A fully-enclosed garden on a spaceship producing edible foodstuffs.

This is an early reference to this idea.

We visited the many laboratories where the master of the Maritia spent his days. We saw the gardens, flooded with artificial sunlight, planted with everything imaginable, that supplied the necessary food.
