"People ask me how I do research for my science fiction. The answer is, I never do any research. I just enjoy reading the stuff, and some of it sticks in my mind and fits into the stories."
- Frederik Pohl

Hinged Mittens (for Space Suit)
Space worthy mittens for space suits.

Carse swung back the hinged mittens of the suit and slid his hands out ready for action. In his left he took his ray-gun; then, pressing the mitten-switch, he dropped straight, silent, swift, like the Hawk he now truly was.

(Hinged mittens from 'The Bluff of the Hawk' by Anthony Gilmore)

Technovelgy from The Bluff of the Hawk, by Anthony Gilmore.

Of course you'd want your space suit's hinged mittens to swing back out of the way - you can't aim and shoot a ray-gun with mittens!

Compare to space mittens from Space Flotsam (1934) by Raymond Z. Gallun.

Compare, if you like, these almost entirely dissimilar items: the spray-on gloves from Abercrombie Station (1952) by Jack Vance, the karatand from Stand on Zanzibar (1968) by John Brunner, the sand trout glove from Children of Dune (1976) by Frank Herbert and the spray-on surgical glove from Altered Carbon (2003) by Richard Morgan.
