"Bureaucracies hide their mistakes, because people's careers are tied to those mistakes. Therefore, bureaucracies are a perfect mechanism for perpetuating mistakes."
- Frank Herbert

Robot Gardener
An autonomous gardening robot, taking care of plants in parks or fields.

Someone (or something) has to do those jobs that modern people find tedious - like taking care of plants.

David Unger sat moodily on his park bench...

To his right a robot gardener worked over the same patch of grass again and again, its metallic eye-lenses intently fastened on the wizened, hunched-over figure of the old man.

From War Veteran, by Philip K. Dick.

For similar ideas, take a look at the Robot Crab, a gardening robot from Gibson's 1984 novel Neuromancer. For visual appeal, check out the Agricultural Robot Pest Controller from Michael Crichton's 1985 film Runaway.
