"Fuzzy logic tries to get machines to think like people do, with inexact fuzzy terms."
- Bart Kosko

Nikon Eyes
Artificially cultivated eyes that can be transplanted to replace (or repair) your original pair.

The fascinating thing about this for me is the idea that a company that got its start in optics might turn in other directions as the market changes. Companies like Nikon have already adapted to (that is, embraced) the digital camera and all of its attendant devices. Why not eyes?

Just another element in the optical train.

Case turned his head and looked up into Wage's face. It was a tanned and forgettable mask. The eyes were vatgrown sea-green Nikon transplants. Wage wore a suit of gunmetal silk and a simple bracelet of platinum on either wrist.

I wonder if Nikon could build me some 6x wide angle eyes? It seems to me that Steve Austin (The Six Million Dollar Man) would kind of squint and "zoom in" on a scene in a telephoto sort of way.

You might want to see Frank Herbert's take on the idea of artificial eyes and machine vision; see Tleilaxu Eyes from the novel Dune.
